Carissa needed a new water heater for her Northeast Atlanta apartment, but she anticipated a challenging replacement. The existing water heater sat in a particularly tight and unforgiving space, making the job difficult. Knowing she couldn’t handle the project on her own, Carissa called Fix & Flow for help.

Knowing the constraints of the space, our expert plumber, Michael, created a step-by-step plan to ensure a seamless and efficient installation. Here’s how we handled this project:

Safe Disconnection and Disposal: To protect the home and our team, we first disconnected the gas and water lines from the unit, then drained and disposed of the old water heater.

Installation of a New Water Heater: Understanding the importance of selecting the right replacement unit, Michael chose a new 50-gallon AO-Smith ProLine gas water heater for its efficiency and durability.

Code Enhancements: To ensure the safety of Carissa’s home, we carried out several tests and enhancements with the new unit, including:

Installing a new gas sediment trap and insulated flex supply line
Completing a pressure test on the gas lines to ensure there were no leaks
Adding hot and cold copper lines, a thermal expansion tank, and a full port brass isolation valve to enhance longevity and comply with current building codes

Special Adjustments: Considering the spatial constraints, our team reconfigured sections of the T&P valve discharge line and aligned a new vent pipe with the water heater. We carefully raised the new unit and connected the catch pan to an existing drain, navigating the complexities of the building’s structure with ease.

System Optimization: Our team wrapped up by performing a thorough system start-up, function test, and leak check, to ensure the new system was working properly.

Warranty and Peace of Mind

In line with Fix & Flow’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, this project was backed by several layers of assurance. The new water heater came with a two-year manufacturer’s on parts, ensuring the quality of all components, and a six-year warranty on the tank, assuring the new unit’s longevity and reliability. For additional peace of mind, we also provided Carissa with a one-year labor warranty.
