Bryan, a long-time Fix & Flow customer and homeowner in Buckhead, was dealing with a guest bathroom shower that was unable to properly mix water temperatures. The only options were scalding hot or freezing cold with no in-between. This problem puzzled Bryan so he reached out to our team to investigate the issue and get his shower working properly.
Once on site, our team discovered the shower’s thermostatic cartridge, which is responsible for regulating water temperature, was malfunctioning. The shower’s trim kit would need to be removed to access the cartridge, but this revealed another issue. An unneeded diverter handle was left in during the cartridge’s original installation, and this handle would need to be cut out without cutting off the diverter itself, adding another layer of difficulty to the job.
Fix & Flow’s team of experienced plumbers demonstrated their skill and experience by delicately removing the diverter handle without damaging any of the shower’s other components. This step allowed our crew to finally access and inspect the cartridge, which clearly needed to be replaced. Fortunately, the cartridge was still under warranty, so our team replaced it with a new Artos thermostatic cartridge along with an Artos trim kit. And while we thought the job was finished, some final testing revealed yet another problem.
During the final pressure test of the new system, our crew uncovered another issue: the shower’s hot and cold water supplies were reversed at the valve. To correct this and ensure the new cartridge would work correctly, we had to get creative. Our team cut out a piece of drywall in the shower ceiling to access the supply lines, then swapped the existing connections using new copper fittings. One more round of testing confirmed that the system was leak free and, finally, working like it should.
While addressing these main concerns, our crew also noted that both the master and guest shower drains were severely clogged. We took the initiative to clean each one to enhance the overall efficiency of Bryan’s home plumbing system.
This project with Bryan threw quite a few curve balls our way, but our team of diligent and experienced plumbing technicians were able to handle each one. What we expected to be a simple shower repair turned into a puzzle that required some creative thinking to provide a quality, long-lasting solution.
