When Tony reached out to Fix & Flow about the bathroom leak in his 1920s condo that was dripping into his downstairs neighbor’s unit, he thought it would be a rather standard fix. Turns out, the original plumbing had never been replaced and was over 100 years old. The shower pan leak was the tip of the iceberg for needed repairs, but that didn’t scare off the Fix & Flow team!
This bathroom renovation job quickly presented many challenges and the team knew it would require careful attention.
The plumbing in the home was the original 1920s steel pipes throughout the bathroom. Removing the 100-year-old steel pipe was no easy feat, as it also had to be cleared of sludge and debris that had accumulated over the years. While removing the steel pipes, the team also had to work around and carefully handle the other construction materials from the same era.
Unfortunately, there was another added layer of difficulty since the home was above another resident’s condo, which gave the team few angles to work with in order to address the issues. In addition to the plumbing repairs, the layout of the bathroom had to be reconfigured due to the new, slightly larger, shower being installed – all while meeting today’s building codes.
The new design meant that the door would need to be moved over, the tiling would need a refresh, new drywall would have to be installed, and the electricity would need to be rewired. An additional challenge the team had to overcome—the original tiling and walls were uneven. In order to enhance the space without creating an eye sore, the team took the extra time to properly line up and square off the tiles to ensure a seamless look.
Despite all of the obstacles and intricacies, the repair was completed successfully. The bathroom looks incredible and is now up to modern standards. Some of the upgrades included a large new shower, new lighting fixtures, tile, vanity, and toilet. There was not a part of Tony’s bathroom that was untouched. This bathroom was turned into the most optimal bathroom it could be, which could not have been done without the proper level of communication and trust that Tony and the Fix & Flow team shared over this project. Now Tony has a refreshing bathroom that can be enjoyed for the next century!
