Fix & Flow responded to a sewer line backup at Tanya’s home in East Atlanta. This wasn’t our first visit, but this time, the issue was more severe than expected. The main sewer line was heavily obstructed, causing persistent backups and risking more significant plumbing problems. Our experienced plumber, Chad, began working to provide a long-term solution to get Tanya’s plumbing system up and running again.
Fix & Flow arrived on site and conducted a full inspection, discovering that the sewer line was clogged due to insufficient fall in the existing pipe. The pipe’s angle was too low to allow proper drainage, causing solids to build up and block the flow. We initially tried to use a sewer machine to clear the blockage, but were unsuccessful. Recognizing the need for a more robust solution, Chad proposed a high-pressure water jetting followed by a full sewer line replacement.
Our team began by performing high-pressure water jetting to clear the existing sewer line. This method successfully eliminated the blockage, allowing us to locate and assess the path of the line. Next, we dug up the old cast iron sewer line at the foundation and created a new entry point above the original one, providing the new 4” PVC line with the necessary fall to drain properly. We also added a two-way cleanout near the house for easier maintenance in the future.
The next day, Chad and our team dug a trench from the house to the street and installed the new line. We ensured the new 4” PVC pipe had the correct slope and was properly bedded to fix the drainage issue and prevent future sagging. Finally, Chad connected the new line to the county’s 6” main line and installed a 6” cleanout at the street.
Upon completing the sewer line installation, we performed a thorough test and final video inspection to confirm there were no leaks and that the plumbing system was working properly. We then backfilled the trench, raked the work area, and spread grass seed and straw and removed all debris and roots to restore Tanya’s yard to its previous state.
